The MobileScrobbler application in action - Image 1For some people, it may simply not be enough to just listen to music on their iPhone's interference-shielded speakers; a connection may be needed - to a social music website, that is. Well, homebrew developer Ste's MobileScrobbler v1.4.1 application allows people to do exactly that.

MobileScrobbler v1.4.1 basically lets your Apple iPhone or iPod Touch connect to last.fm's site. Apart from listening to music on the said website, the application also allows you to do a variety of neat things, such as "scrobble" tracks as you listen on on your iPhone or iPod Touch, tag songs as "love" or "ban," and even queue songs for submission when you're offline, which automatically submits them the next time you connect.

With version 1.4.1 of MobileScrobbler comes a host of new features, according to Ste:
  • Redesigned layout
  • Redesigned Now Playing screens by Jan Garcia
  • Browse your friends and listen to their radio stations
  • Keeps a list of your recent radio stations so you can easily restart them
  • Configure MobileScrobbler settings through Preferences.app
  • Multitouch gestures to ban, love, and skip tracks
  • View your top artists, top tracks, and top albums
  • Ban and love tracks from the Recent Tracks list
  • Remove ban and love from the Recently Banned and Recently Loved lists
  • Browse a top listener's profile by tapping their username
  • Display arbitrary track metadata by passing command line arguments -track, -artist, and -album
  • Empty the metadata and image caches with the tap of a button
  • Search for users
  • View other users' charts
  • Increase scrobbler daemon startup delay
  • Continue updating the progress scrubber while scrolling
  • Hide the 'Now Playing' button if nothing is playing
  • Don't scrobble podcasts and audio books
  • Require confirmation for loving / banning tracks
  • Plug a few memory leaks
  • Faster loading of track and user data
  • Updated Norwegian translation
  • Remove workaround for broken launchctl on older dev team jailbreak
  • Additional memory usage improvements
Ste also changed the install script "in order to allow people with a 'broken' launchctl to update the app" (If the 1.4.1 installation went smoothly for you, however, then you don't need this.). Furthermore, the developer also added 1.1.3 compatibility.

Please note that you will need the following: a jailbroken Apple iPhone or iPod Touch, Firmware 1.1.1 or higher, a last.fm account and Installer. app 3.0. If you'd like to download the application itself, feel free to click on the source link below. Just don't forget to read Ste's instructions and exercise caution when installing the software.
