Macintosh Logo - Image 1 Let's face it: Macs are great machines, but horribly cruel on the budget. Sure, Windows desktops are affordable, easy to upgrade, and very customization-friendly, but there's really nothing like a Mac running on your desk and handling all the important stuff. That's why Mike of the Send Mike to Space! blog decided to write an open letter to Steve Jobs himself, calling him out on a dare: to make a regular, affordable Mac that the PC-using community could purchase without stretching the budget too thin.

Will Steve Jobs take the dare up, or will it be ignored like other open letters to rich, powerful men? Time will only tell, but you have do admit, replacing that buggy, virus-ridden PC with a shiny Mac sounds too good to be true.

You can check out the letter in its entirety by clicking Read below.

 » Introducing Problems!

Part of why the Mac is so stable and malware free is the minimal diversity of the hardware, and, by inference, the drivers. Being able to deal with a minimal, albeit robust, hardware environment gives Apple the capacity to make sure that everything is up to their standards, and secure as possible.

For my part, I'll pay the small, if any, premium for excellent, trouble free computing. However, if you configure PC's, feature for feature, equivalent to a Mac, the Mac is almost always cheaper.

I think the real effort should be in banning garbage PCs, buggy Windows, and the trillions upon trillions of lost productivity expended on unstable computing.

as much as i like macs, i wouldn't switch from a pc to a mac. maybe if i was going to have a fresh start (maybe going into college or something like that). first off, even though there is bootcamp, its pretty advanced (from what i have heard). And also if your going to use bootcamp on a mac, what would be the point of having a beautiful mac interface if your just going to boot up a windows os. second off, if your going to do everything legal (not saying that im for or against piracy) but most of your windows software is useless. You need to go out and buy almost 300$ of new software (assuming you use Microsoft Office). Pc's are good. Macs are better, but I wouldnt switch unless I had some spare money to spend. Save the money, skin your computer to look like a mac--for free.

 » Mac/PC

I have just gone back to Mac after 9 years on PC with an iMac 24"running Bootcamp with Windows XP. I expect to use both OS for the time being due to most of my software is PC. As time goes by the iMac will come into it's own as I will do all my software upgrades to Mac. There will still be occasions where I will still be using the PC due to special software not being available for Mac, but the stability and share joy of using the iMac OS wins the day. Boy am I glad I made the switch. The iMac is actually inexpensive considering it's total reliability and no extras to add. It comes with just about everything included for happy computing.

If you're going to use a Linux-based OS without the flexibility of Linux, you might as well spend the money and think of it as a "dummy fee".

 » Mac Mini

Is Mike unaware of all of apple's products, because if you visit the apple store you can purchase, for less than the price of a crap PC, a Mac Mini, for under £400. Ok, not the best spec in the world, but if its what makes you want to buy more pretty mac technology then so be it.

I love how everyone goes on and on about how Macs are much better than PCs when Apple currently has 5% of the market share.
