crash - Image 1If you read our blog post the other day about Apple's new called OS 10.4.9, you would have been strongly advised that you should wait at least a couple of days before installing it just so you can steer clear of nasty stuff. Our warning was vindicated by recent news: The update has caused a lot of crashes in the past 24 hours.

Apple owners are complaining of computers hanging up. Allegedly, once you get the update, your Mac responds with an error, then stalls for an eternity. It wouldn't restart and if you try the crude way unplugging your poor computer and turning it back on, it hangs up again. Most victims ended up reinstalling their systems.

There are, however, some Powerbook users who did manage to get through without breaking a sweat. Our advice, wait a few more days, but if the urge is too strong, back everything up just so you don't go back to zilch.

I just installed the update last night on a 17" imac and a mac mini and there were no problems.

Is this another case of Apple jealousy?

Did it immediately when I read about it. No problem of cause. I'm sure it's "PC" impersonating "Mac" again...

 » Crash installing 10.4.9

I installed 4.9 on a freiends Powerbook 1,5 and it never restarted.
So after 4-5 min i shut it down by holding the start botton 5 sec
and tried to start again but the same stuff happen again.

So now i started in safeboot and repaired permissions
after that i restarted in default mode/auto login and everything worked.

i thought the problem was my friends PB but now i know.

So this is a tip and BTW. now i know my friend PB is OK.

I'd just like to point out to you mac lovers that no MS fans came in here and bashed the hell out of your favorite machine because it crashed.

Why dont you think about that the next time something like this comes up for Vista instead of bashing the hell out of us.

Because just like no one here had a problem with this update, which is a good suprizing thing in the world of computers now-a-days, there are people who dont have any trouble with vista, such as myself.

 » Confused...

Why do you bother with Vista? It is just a OS X in disguise. There's all these compatibility issues between XP and Vista, and Vista is as different from Xp as with OS X.

Why?

Have a bite of the apple and see if you'll like it...

figures once i say something the anti-PC people show up. now let me say something in support of vista. mainly on your issue with compatibility. And now let me list a few Windows XP programs i have running 100% PERFECTLY on Vista Ultimate.

-Adobe Photoshop 7.0 and CS2
-Rhino 3d + Penguin and Flamingo
-3D Studio max
-Adobe Flash studio and Dreamweaver
-AIM 6.0
-Firefox 2.0
-Limewire
-Google Earth
-Winamp
-QuickTime + iTunes
-Zune
-DIVX player and codecs
-UT2004ECE
-Max Payne 2
-Grand Theft Auto San Andreas
-Steam (Half Life 2, Lost Coast, Episode One)
-Guild Wars + all expansions.
-Quake 4
-Doom 3
-Need For Speed (Underground 2, Most Wanted and Carbon)
-C&C 3 Demo
-Call of Duty 2
-The Godfather
-Motorola Mobile Phone Tools
-Diablo 2

And i have had a bite of apple i used it for 5 years and hated every second of it. I will admit now, finally, they have a good OS and i will gladly say that but i personally will never leave windows. And if anything at least Microsoft doesn't have to resort to flame ads to sell their product. Maybe if apple was just a little less greedy more people would make the switch.

 » No Problem

I updated my MacBook Pro immediately and had no problems at all. In fact, I also updated a iMac (Intel) the same day with no problems.

 » Did have install problem

...on an Intel duo-core iMac. Got to the "Starting Mac OS X" progress bar and progressed no further. Unplugged scanner (whether that helped or not, who knows) and started in safe mode. Ran Disk Utility and repaired permissions and restarted. Volia! Back to work.

 » Photoshop 7 crashes with OS 10.4.9

This is the only problem I've run into once I upgraded to 4.9, but it's a nasty one. Photoshop 7 tries to open, but about half way through it tries to download some upgrades. That's when it crashes. I tried restarting my Mac. Same thing. I deleted Photoshop 7 and reinstalled it. Same thing happened again...and again. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, were you able to solve it? In desperate need of a solution.

» Smooth sailing on all my 12 Macs

Not one problem installing .4.9 on any of my Macs (yeah, I have a ton of them).

Whoever started this must have been trying to upgrade WinXP to OS X.

And why bash Vista? Because it's so much fun. There's a reason the Department of Transport banned it.
