One of the major selling points of the MacBook Air is its ultra-thin profile. One of the ways that Apple was able to accomplish this is by giving the unit an integrated 37-watt-hour lithium polymer battery. This integrated battery has caused some concern among owners and potential buyers of the unit, though Apple Insider reports that the battery issue might be a trivial one at best.

It was mentioned that users with a size-0 type Phillips screwdriver should be able to replace the battery with a little work. Apparently, the bottom cover of the MacBook Air is easily unscrewed and provides easy access to the battery cavity. The battery can then be unscrewed from the board and just pulled off since it isn't soldered to the unit.

Apple has already announced that it intends on offering a MacBook Air Out-of-Warranty Battery Replacement for US$ 129, a process which takes about 5 business days. In the near future though, it might be possible to have this service available on any of Apple's retail outlets if the process of replacing the battery is as simple as Apple Insider's sources say it is. Hopefully though, we won't have to completely rely on AppleCare to save the day.
