Leopard springing into the scene by the end of March - Image 1 Living up to its name, the OS X Leopard just might be speeding into its eventual release into the wild (i.e. the consumer market) very soon - like, end-of-March-soon. Well, that's if web rumors are to be believed. Well Jobs did say they'd have OS X 10.5 available by Spring. That's a couple months earlier than what most of us expected.

With the release of Leopard also comes the new versions of iLife and iWork. We haven't heard follow ups from Apple HQ yet, but we're bound to spot something very soon. Stay tuned, folks.

 » this might be retarded...

but do you just update or do you have to buy and install the Leopard OS? and if you just upgrade, do you have to pay for it like Windows?

 » yup

well when ever you go up a 10."x" you have to pay. so if you have tiger which is 10.4.8 and you update to 10.4.9 you dont have to pay but if they come out with 10.5 you have to pay for that operating system

 » eh....

Sounds kinda lame, I mean, I'm getting my very first mac very soon, and to get it while having to pay for leopard is not cool for me.

» Purchases of Tiger must be WAY down

I just bout Toast 8 and then found it needs Tiger (10.4) to work & I'm still on Panther (10.3) but due to the upgrade process there is NO WAY I'm going to buy Tiger now when Leopard (10.5) is imminent. If I wait for Leopard I'll get updates from 10.5.0 through to 10.5.9 but if I buy Tiger now, my upgrade path is to have to pay all over again for Leopard.

 » hope so...

I really hope that it comes out at the end of March. I've been saving for a while to get a Macbook and waiting for Leopard to come out so I don't have to buy extra software, just the laptop. I'm just hoping that the Leopard Macbooks won't be more expensive.
