iPhone - Image 1

For those of us who are looking to code some very awesome applications for the Apple iPhone and/or iPod touch, good news: a major investor by the name of Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers have just announced the launch of the iFund. What's the iFund, you ask?

Well, it's a US$ 100 million fund that they've put up in order to help budding iPhone/iPod touch application developing companies along. Yes, that's a lot of money, and it's all for helping the homebrew developers break into the mainstream scene. Awesome!

And that's just the tip of the iceberg. Not only will Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers (KPCB) give the greens necessary to fuel (and sustain) an application-developing outfit, they'll also be working hand-in-hand with Apple to provide company building expertise, business development relationships and access to its network of entrepreneurs. This appears to be exactly what Apple meant by "exciting enterprising features."

This means that they'll not only pay your overhead, but they'll also be helping you with what you need to get started up as a business.

This is definitely a good thing for homebrew developers. While they may certainly grab a share of the spotlight with the scene, more often than not their awesome projects fall to the wayside due to the lack of funds.

With this, we'll definitely be seeing more and more creative applications developed for the iPhone and iPod touch - here's hoping that they won't be that expensive. In any case, updates as we get them!
