Teenspot asked about 1,150 teens what was on their Christmas "most wanted list" for 2006. These were open-ended questions (not multiple choice) so the answers really reflect what the teens wanted.

And there you have it. If you want to date a gamer girl, the odds of finding one are slim to none. But girls and boys have the iPod in common (Apple must be happy). It's nice that girls want iPods and laptops. It could've been worse - they could have asked for small brainless yapping dogs and those tiny backpacks with fur trim. I know a lot of girls that play games now and then. Most girl gamers I've seen are hot, and a lot of the girls I know are old school gamers (Mario Bros and Tetris) which is cool cause I love those games.
oh, and I want a laptop and camera too, so I guess I have those tech things in common as well lol.

Well, I am a Girl Gamer(cuz im a girl duh!), in fact I have a nintendo wii and I was playing Twilight Princess about 10 min ago. I dont have an iPod because I wanted a nintendo wii instead. Knowing those results I wonder why us girl gamers are so rare! Gaming is not nerdy! It is cool! Some girls are just WAY too snobby and concided and think gaming is for boys only. Well they are wrong! Gaming is 4 everyone! Go girl gamers!

i bought an Xbox 360 two weeks before i got the Wii..... now it's just collecting dust because the Wii is a lot more fun to play ^_^

They play games. PEOPLE play games. Being good looking, kicking ass, and playing games HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH EACH OTHER, I don't know WHY you guys feel the need to mention these things every time you talk about gamer girls.

because gamer girls are not usually height/weight proportionate; most of the gamer girls they are referring to are their girlfriends or wives; they do not want people to assume their girlfriends or wives are not height/weight proportionate; so they feel as though they must address this before people make assumptions. Gamers usually play many games, and are good at games because of this. By stating that their gamer girl friends are "kick a$$," they are just making sure people do not mistake them for casual gamers. Almost all people can be considered casual gamers. This addresses you question, but does not mean that the assumptions made are correct or the inclusion of such terms are necessary.

Most gamers are socially inept and find message boards as outlets of social interaction. Because they have no other outlets, they tend to skip past the "outward" approach of speaking ("how are you", "nice weather") and go right to "personal" matters (their girlfriends looks and abilities).

that's the problem with the gaming industry at large: they read a few polls, then decide, "well, not enough female gamers out there, might as well continue to cater to that 14-30 year old male demographic then! say, how big is Lara Croft's bust size? think we can make it bigger?"

The only people who come here are people who play games or want to learn more about them. So obviously some of them are going to be girls; that doesn't mean that most girls are gamers.
That'd be like arguing that most Americans aren't overweight because all your friends on an exercise forum say they weight under 150lbs. You’re comparing the majority of the entire populous with the majority of a biased demographic. So…most people on this site will have a bias towards videogames. That's a given.
Also, most people like to date other people into the same things. So the fact that some of you had 'gamer girlfriends' doesn't detract the fact that most girls don't seem to be gamers. If I liked tennis I'd probably date a girl into it too, ya know?
As far as my experience, most girls I know from work, school and church don't like games or anime. Many of them don't know jack about anything past Nintendo or Pokemon. However, many girls I know online like games and anime because most places I go online deal with either games, anime or both.
So I really do think that most girls would rather have an iPod than a Wii, PS3 or 360. You gotta think about it, there are around seven billion people on earth and if half are women, that's around 3.5 billion. I'd bet you anything that the vast majority of that three and a half billion aren't gamers. Being so, the article is right; "MOST girls" aren't into games.

I'm married to one. Have been for almost 8 years. They're not as rare as you think, but they're usually not into the same games as guys are. My wife wanted the laptop and the iPod but she's also into the games.

Girls need to get more into the game world.
