iPhone firmware 1.1.3 prep, first confirmed trojan virus - Image 1

Symantec has released information regarding the first ever Trojan virus targetting the iPhone. Accordingly, the firmware 1.1.3 prep application was causing problems to users after it was uninstalled.

Various reports mentioned that the application package doesn't have much effect on the iPhone upon installation. All it does is say "shoes."

However, once users have uninstalled it, the malicious program overwrites valid programs such as Erica's Utilities, OpenSSH, and Sendfile then deletes them. Users must then have to reinstall these applications.

The risk that comes from installing the program is minimal as the site hosting it has been taken down. Even though this is the case, iPhone users should take caution when it comes to installing applications to their units as the first ever Trojan virus has appeared.

» this is only the beginning.

The person who made this isnt out to kill peoples iPhones, its to show off.

He adds the message "shoes" so that everyone posts on forums about this application and whether anyone else's said shoes. He's showing that this person can do serious damage. Thats why he gets the program to uninstall a few apps.

If he wanted to screw people over, he would have deleted the fonts folder or something. That would have bricked your iPhone, meaning you'd need to restore it via iTunes.

Beware guys, dont download anything unless other people have. Check out www.ipodtouchfans.com for posts on almost every application. Dont just go randomly selecting applications and hope that they do what they say.
