Compared to the PC, the Mac is as safe as safe can get when it comes to security issues, right? Well, according to the latest report from SecureMac, the Macintosh security experts have recently identified the first ARDAgent-based Trojan malware to infect Mac systems running on Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.5.Known as "AppleScript.THT", the Trojan exploits a vulnerability in the Apple Remote Desktop Agent and allows malicious users complete access to the system. It can basically transmit system and user passwords, similar to other Trojan programs. In addition, it can also log keystrokes, take pictures using the built-in Apple iSight camera, take screenshots and even turn on file sharing. The malware is distributed as an AppleScript entitled "ASthtv05" or an application bundle named "AStht_v06". You can identify both through their file sizes, which are 60k and 3.1MB, respectively. It then installs itself in the /Library/Caches folder and will set itself up during start up. Please take particular care when downloading or running any AppleScript files. You can protect your system from this threat by running some of the protection programs being advertised on the source link. The site also mentions that additional removal instructions will be posted once they are available. |

» So Much For The Phony Ads...
Hey I thought Apple computers were completely immune to any kind of virus or hack?!? At least that's what the brutal TV ads would have you believe, not to mention any smirking Windows-hating person that owns one...
I'm not saying Windows is better, it very much isn't by far, but the super-secure and indestructable Macs aren't so flawless afterall, are they?
