MacBook Pro - they don't like water - Image 1When customer care doesn't get the job done, then go to the higher ups. It worked for one Xbox 360 customer who went straight to Bill Gates (via email, of course) and immediately got a remedy for his complaint in a swift matter of 24 hours.

Apparently, that stunt doesn't work all the time. Particularly not with Apple. The site Boy Genius Report ran a story about a customer who wrote straight to Steve Jobs after not being satisfied with the help he got from Apple Care.

According to the story, the owner recently water-damaged his MacBook Pro and called Apple's customer care to inquire about his options for repair. It took him about three to four calls before he got a straight answer, and when he did, he didn't find it comforting.

He was told that the only way to get his unit fixed is for him to shell out almost US$ 300 up front, and even then, there is no guarantee that the problem will be fixed. Frustrated, he then emailed Steve Jobs at the @apple.com  domain. This is the reply he got from supposedly Jobs himself:

This is what happens when your MacBook Pro sustains water damage. They are pro machines and they donÂ?t like water. It sounds like youÂ?re just looking for someone to get mad at other than yourself.

The sender of this email came from the Apple domain, which is exclusive to Apple employees only. But while we're having doubts here as to Jobs being the author of this email, it is still rather discomforting to see someone bearing the brand of Apple treating customers like this.

I don't know why this is a surprise, Just because it is Apple does not mean they have great customer service.

In fact the Elitist stature they like to maintain would, if anything, make them feel this kind of service is acceptable.

Last but not least, You water damaged your expensive piece of technology, What exactly did you expect them to do?.

 » why?

why is he surprised that theyre charging him to fix HIS problem. im pretty sure its not apples fault that he water damaged his laptop. and at least theyre giving a straightforward answer. instead of tip toeing around the truth. bottom line. its his fault not apples, and its 100% true that hes trying to get mad at someone else other than himself.

» Listen to my story its worse

I had bought my mac book pro back in october for school taking television and broadcasting. So what happened was i got a headphone jack stuck in the slot on the mac book and couldnt get it. So i went to a authorized mac retailer/repair and had a repair done. I had paid $300 dollars to have the left io board replaced now keep this in mind it was brand new i took care of it no scratches. So i get my unit back from repair and theres scratches on by the mouse and just above disc tray. I hadnt notice this till i got home also the dvd metal was bent into the dvd whole. When i went back and explained that there was damage they told me it was my fault so after 1hr of battling i convinced them to wave charges to have it fixed again (they couldnt promise they'd fix it) then when i got it back again even more surface damage and the lower left of my mac book is loose and moves when i rest my hand on it as well as a huge dent in the speaker i emailed mac and they havent replied I PAID 300 DOLLARS TO HAVE MY BRAND NEW MAC LOOK USED AND BEAT UP...........

» I think Apple is Getting a Bad rap on this one

I had a MACBOOK PRO that a Three year old a his hands on... I know... i was careless... The three year old dropped it and misplaced a bunch of the keys... So, i took into an APPLE STORE.... they not only told me the replacement cost... which i paid... they took care of the Keyboard at no cost... the point I am trying to make is that you get nowhere on the phone... Take it into a Store and they will get you taken care of. Oh, the store service is FREE.
