A few days ago, the iPhone community was mystified to find a McAfee antivirus software circulating around. Apparently, even McAfee was mystified because they didn't give an official release for the software.

While its origins was in doubt at first, McAfee has confirmed that the software was indeed developed by them. However, the program was never meant to go public as it was only a proof-of-concept.

So the good news is, it's the genuine article. The bad news is, you're probably not going to get any updates for virus definitions since it's not an official release. Don't despair though: we might see a commercial release after all.

Because of the leaked proof-of-concept program, the iPhone community was able to express their feedback, which was positive in the whole. The feedback may lead McAfee to continue developing the product till its end stages.
