Unfortunately, sometimes in our reporting of iPod news, we come across something that puts a black mark on the subject.

San Marcos Police, after taking hold of a man's iPod, found pictures and video of child porn stored in the hard drive of the device. Working off a tip from the man's internet service provider that he was in possession of the illegal pornography, police conducted a search warrant at his home, where they found the iPod, taking it to a forensics lab for further study.

Thirty-eight-year-old Ron James Guzman of San Marcos was indicted Wednesday by a grand jury on nine counts of possession of child pornography. The man's ISP, which is required by law to report all suspicions of child pornography, followed the law to a tee in this case.

Police also seized several other of Guzman's computers, including his laptop and desktop computers. "When the officers were there executing the searching warrant, they find the iPod. We brought it back and examined this iPod just like we would a computer, and we're able to look at this forensically because it's a hard drive. It's a small storage device so we're able to look at it in a forensics environment, and lo and behold, it has child pornography on it," David Boatright, Criminal Investigations Division Chief with the Texas AG's office, said. He also faces multiple charges of sexual assault with a child.

It is a rather unfortunate thing that some people use devices like the iPod for truly nefarious reasons instead of enjoying them like all other civilized human beings. In the end though, with the vigilant eye of the community bringing such activities to light, the culprits face justice's merciless hand -- or at least we hope they will.
