It seems that the recent hubbub that the Beatles catalog will soon appear on iTunes may be nothing but rumors, if Apple Inc's statement is to be taken at face value.

First whiffs of the "rumor" stemmed from a statement from Paul McCartney, who said that the catalog will soon be available on the iTunes Store "soon".

However, according to a report from Billboard, the more recent reports only came from unnamed sources "close to Sir Paul McCartney." Apple Inc. soon got wind of it as well.

An Apple Inc. Spokesman commented on the subject, saying: "[These are] unsubstantiated speculation. [...] This is not news nor is it a scoop." We have to note though, that he didn't actually deny that it would happen, so who knows, it might still happen.
