Apple Safari - Image 1Trojan horses have always been bad news, ever since the Greeks hauled one into the city of Troy and killed off its inhabitants. But what if the trojan horse came from someone or some people whom you trust? Apple just recently bore the brunt of criticism after making use of a Trojan Horse of sorts on Windows users.

So what actually happened? Apple's Software Updater application, installed as part of iTunes, began to indiscriminately offer its Safari browser to any Windows user who had the Software Updater installed in his computer. The update was offered whether or not the user had a previous version of Safari in his PC.

This move was largely criticized by industry figures, saying that Apple was practically pushing Safari in the expense of the user's browser of choice.

Because of the highly negative feedback that the company received, Apple issued a new version of Software Update (referred to as as 2.1.0.110) that separated the actual updates from new software that they want users to try out. This new version also lets users choose to turn off automatic updates.

Trojan Horse, lol that's not a trojan horse at all
The only thing the updater does is make a list of all new updates/application of apple and then it makes you select wether you like to download it or not
It's not a trojan horse at all
