The plan to allow third-party software development for the iPod Touch and the iPhone using the SDK devkit are in full swing. However, developers will have to be serious about their craft if they want their apps to make it to the iTunes servers.According to an Apple Insider report, Apple Inc. itself will be in charge of regulating the flow of software in and out of its online store. This means that the Cupertino firm will decide which apps make the cut and which ones don't. Third-party developers will be allowed to write code that will capitalize on the Phone, Wi-Fi, and camera features of Apple's wares. However, docks and accessories of the sort won't be up for grabs. Some pundits have expressed some misgivings about Apple's policy to come, pointing out that these rules can hinder innovation on the part of developers. On the other hand, at least we'll be getting a nice degree of assurance that Apple will only approve the safest apps offered. Other sources have noted that the SDK's release at the iPhone Software Roadmap media event this Thursday will only see a limited beta of the devkit. Still, it'll be interesting to see how this is received by the developer community and what surprises they can come up with the tools. We'll give you more updates as they come. |
