Apple iPhone - Image 1Third-party developer hopefuls who wanted to get in on the iPhone coding scene tried to enroll to Apple's iPhone Developer Program, which requires every prospective member to shell out at least US$ 99 to get in. However, it turns out that not everyone who are willing to pay for the fee would be accepted into the program, and several coders received iPhone developer rejection letters, which we quote below:

Dear Registered iPhone Developer, Thank you for expressing interest in the iPhone Developer Program. We have received your enrollment request. As this time, the iPhone Developer Program is available to a limited number of developers and we plan to expand during the beta period. We will contact you again regarding your enrollment status at the appropriate time. Thank you for applying. Best regards, iPhone Developer Program.

Those who applied from outside the country have received a slightly different letter saying that the program is available only in the U.S., but will extend sometime during the beta period. Needless to say, many of the rejected hopefuls were upset as they received the email messages Apple sent out.

It seems that there's reason behind the mass rejections though. According to TUAW's tipster, Apple hasn't set up its own certificate management system, making them unable to issue certificates to qualified developers for the time being. This may make sense for now, since according to TUAW, it hasn't found anyone who was accepted into the program.

So did Apple really accept anyone into their iPhone Developer Program? Do stay with us as we keep tabs on this tidbit.
