Movies - Image 1

Earlier, we updated on you what went down in the Macworld Expo 2008, namely the unveiling of some new and exciting things coming from Apple. Now, we get you up to speed on what could be a love letter from Apple to movie buffs, namely iTunes Movie Rentals. It's a feature that lets users digitally rent movies from all the major movie studios of today, all from the convenience of their Apple-flavored gadgets. Awesome!

So, how does iTunes Movie Rentals work? Simply put, for a pittance ranging from US$ 2.99 to US$ 4.99, you can download movies from iTunes and be able to play them either on your Apple TV, all current generation iPods, even on your iPhone (as well as on your own PC or Mac). It's as easy as buying and downloading music on iTunes. After the download process is finished, users have up to 30 days to start watching the rented movie. Once you've started watching the file, however, you then have 24 hours to finish watching it (or watch it multiple times).

Of course, a few things of note - as of this writing, the iTunes Movie Rentals feature is only available in the US region, and requires the latest version of iTunes to be accessed. Also, the iPod models where you can watch your rented movies are those with video-displaying capabilities, such as the iPod classic, iPod nano with video and iPod touch.

And did we mention the movie studios? 20th Century Fox, The Walt Disney Studios, Warner Bros., Paramount, Universal Studios Home Entertainment, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), Lionsgate and New Line Cinema.

Definitely a great day for movie buffs indeed. Sure, nothing beats watching your favorite flicks on the big screen, but isn't it a comfort to watch them whenever you want to?
