iPhone launch - Image 1It looks like O2, the mobile service provider licensed to distribute Apple's beloved iPhone in the UK, is dead on when they said that the tactile mobile phone will be successful in the UK. People eager to get their hands on the iPhone queued for as long as 26 hours, and most of them believe that the wait was well worth it.

The 300-strong crowd that waited for the iPhone launch in Apple's London flagship store was "whipped" up to a frenzy by Apple staff before the doors were opened, according to a BBC reporter, who described the scene as a mayhem.

So far, most of the people who bought the iPhone at launch date in the UK have the same warm reception to Apple's groundbreaking phone as the Americans: they love it. Greg Joswiak, iPhone's marketing head, explained that the customer's love for the iPhone caused their sales to shoot up "through the roof."

 » XD Warm welcome?

Not from what I've seen. I know one person who wants the thing, and to be honest, she's an idiot. She just likes new things, and was amazed when I sent her a picture with bluetooth, so wanting it is nothing to do with the features.

Everyone else has been put off by various things. For some it's the network, O2, (Like J2Jack said, it's not 02. If you're going to report on UK stuff, get someone who actually knows about the UK to do it, there's loads of times stupid mistakes like that have been made because the writer has little knowledge beyond a quick check on wikipedia,) aren't exactly the best for contract mobiles.
Others, it's the stupid price. No-one wants to pay that much for a phone. The one idiot I know that does has more money than sense.
Then there's the small detail of, no-one cares about iPods that much over here. And that's all the appeal this thing had. If you dont care about iPods, this thing has next to nothing to offer beyond the browser, and I can find much better, faster, cheaper portable browsers on the web. iPods are just another MP3 player over here.

It's incredibly hard not to get a warm welcome when you're a big name in technology, because you'll always have your huge backing of fanboys, but this is the first thing I've seen where it's had such a big introduction that I only know one person who's even remotely interested in it.
