What would you say if we told you that we might see Apple notebooks and iPhones which will never run out of juice as long as the user has access to the sunlight? According to reports, Apple has filed a patent for solar cells on mobile devices. For those who aren't too familiar with the workings of solar cells, these devices usually have multiple layers of transparent and semi-transparent layers glued together with shock absorbent materials. Interestingly enough, it was mentioned in the patent that the device could potentially have various layers of the solar cells used as an input device or etched with product logos or other patterns. This pretty much means that Apple could potentially embed the solar cells in the touch screen of the apple iPhone and iPods or in the monitors of their notebooks. Before you get excited, remember this is still just a patent for the device. It may be some time before we see this technology incorporated into Apple devices. Still, this may give us a glimpse at what Apple has planned for the future. |
