Apple's head-mounted display design - Image 1 It's the return of the Visual Boy! OK, no, not really. What you're seeing to the right is apparently Apple's new patent application for a head-mounted laser display design. Well, the top half of it, anyway.

The new design comes in two parts: the retro-looking 3D glasses design in the image above and a belt-clipped processing box. All of the image processing and generation hardware will be housed in the processing box.

The glasses, on the other hand, will handle only the display tasks using ultra thin wedge optics, meaning they can be as thin as your average horn rimmed glasses. Laser generated video will then be transmitted to the glasses by an optical cable. The setup's way better than the bulky head-mounted displays that are around these days.

If Apple does get this thing patented and produced, we can expect it to be all nice and sleek-like when it hits stores. Keep checking back here for more updates.
