With the current Macworld Expo 2008 at the Moscone Center, Apple showcases what they have in store for us and what to expect in the future. Having all eyes on the expo, three analysts share their thoughts on Apple's plans for the gaming industry. Simply put, they have little or no clue as to what Apple will plan when it comes to the gaming scene. With Apple's plans as to what they'll be doing for the gaming industry, David Cole of DFC Intelligene said: To me they just don't seem to have a high-end game strategy. They seem to feel they don't need that consumer. But I don't really know what Apple's strategy is in terms of games. I can tell you they used to be way more focused on this space with a dedicated team to work with game developers. As far as the Mac, I just don't see it being a major option for a serious gamer and that is a reason, despite it having a new found cool factor, I think they have decided to concede the hard-core gamer to Microsoft. Even though there have been games that have been ported to the iPod, Michael Pachter of Wedbush Morgan Securities said that Apple has "not really made a big impact when it comes to games". Because of games that can be played with iPods, either click wheel or touchscreen, there's a lot of things that overlap between iPod owners and handheld game players. Colin Sebastian of Lazard Capital Markets, he said that Apple hasn't really "embraced video games as aggressively as have other platform manufacturers." Although Sebastian thinks that the ongoing growth of the gaming industry will be too attractive for Steve Jobs to simply ignore. As for this writer's thought, Apple has provided us with technology that was widely accepted. With games creeping slowly to the Apple realm, this writer thinks there's a possibility that Apple could rival the PC in terms of gaming in the distant future. What do you guys think of Apple and the gaming industry? Feel free to comment below if you want to share your opinions with us. |
