iPhone - Image 1

Rumors about Apple are few and far between, but it's always interesting whenever one pops up. This one comes from Gartner analyst Ken Dulaney, who believes that Apple may have ordered a second round of 10 million iPhones based on the 3G network. This is based on rumors he's caught wind of in Asia.

What does this mean, then? It means that including the ten million first generation iPhones that Apple has promised that it would sell by the end of 2008, it wouldn't be long before the best-selling next-gen gadget will be snapped up by anyone who's capable of doing so. That's 20 million iPhones, ready to flood the market. Are we in for another price cut, then? Here's hoping so.

Ken Dulaney also has another prediction: that the 3G iPhone will use an Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) display. This would lead to the iPhone sporting a sleeker, slimmer look - as well as significantly lower power consumption. Apple's answer to the Slim & Lite, then?

But what could be the reason for this supposed move by Apple? Dulaney thinks that it's a tactical move by the company, seeing as it didn't do as well as it expected in Europe with the 2.7G/EDGE network phone.

Of course, while we can certainly welcome a 3G-capable iPhone with open arms, we'll have to file this one under rumors first. We'll let you know right away when Apple comments on this matter, however.
