Get a Mac - Image 1 Get a Mac - Image 2

Head on over to the Apple site now and you'll find three new Get a Mac ads. Well, actually, although there are three official new ones, we say there's just two, 'cause the third one's already been covered. Turns out the leaked ad, Tech Support, really was -- er, a leak.

But, no worries, 'cause we've still got two new fresh ones for you! The first one called Surgery has PC Guy all dressed up for his "surgery". In other words, he's getting an upgrade. The second vid, on the other hand, and like the Tech support ad, has an added character, this time in the form of a guy pretending to be Mac.

While all three ads sure are funny, as all Get a Mac ads are, I'd have to say the Sabotage ad is my favorite of the new bunch. The pretend-Mac guy is just so adorable. Anyway, to get what I mean, just click on the Read link below.

To shy away from our usual serving of iPhone-related Apple reports, we encountered in the website SpyMac this ad that they claim is a leaked "Get A Mac" ad. Apparently, the one who uploaded the vid mentioned that this clip has never been aired or published but he didn't reveal how he got it.

As always, it is another take on the hilarious banter between the stiff-looking PC guy and the cool Mac Guy, this time it is advertising the instant video chats But wait, who's that other guy? Well, check out the video we have for you to join in the fun. Whether this ad is indeed a leak that will get aired soon or it's something else, we guess we'll know in a few days. For now, enjoy the vid.

Sales Pitch Ad

Still undecided as to what to give yourself this Christmas? If you want something tech-savvy that wouldn't just be some cool display in your flat, then the Mac just might be the thing for you.

Nah, we're not trying to give some kind of sales pitch here (although heaven knows we've had quite a share of false accusations-lol!). We'll just leave that to the Holiday Apple ad, with mainstay Justin Long, inviting you to "Get A Mac". Yup, you guessed it. There's actually this guy zealously delivering a sales pitch. And it's kinda effective, too, albeit the really comic thought bubbles (which aren't exactly bubbles...).

Whatever. Anyway, you can check out the ad by clicking on the Read link below. And may you be happy with your Mac this Christmas and beyond. If ever the sales pitch gets you sold.

Apple recently unveiled their newest ad for their newest baby, the second generation of their iPod shuffle. Well, unlike the "Get a Mac" ads which focused on how better it is for you to get a Mac over a PC, this one we're talking about doesn't have guys exchanging wisecracks or people dancing like it's the last night of the world.

In fact, all you'll see are torsos putting on different articles of clothing and attaching the nifty iPod shuffle to them. Basically, the ad is trying to convey that their newest innovation will suit you regardless of race, gender, musical preference and other stuff. All of this while The Prototypes's Who's Gonna Sing is playing on the background. Simple concept, nice music. It isn't a surprise if it is able to convey it's message. So maybe you oughta put some music on? Here's the vid we found while rummaging through YouTube.

Justin LongHe's baaack. Actually, he never left in the first place. Despite what was previously thought, Justin Long is still "the Mac guy" and is here to stay. At least, for now. The statement last week about him getting ditched because of looking like a "smug little twit" is apparently false. He himself had posted on his blog about this issue.

While his entry is temporarily unavailable, we've been able to scour other sites for the actual quotes from him (and thanks to That's Not True for the tip as well). Here's what he's got to say:

As for the Mac commercials, I donÂ?t know where that report came from that said I wasnÂ?t going to do anymore - I'm literally setting my alarm right now to wake up for a Mac shoot tomorrow... We're doing some holiday spots now which I think will be pretty funny - not nearly funny enough to justify the money they're paying me though, I'll be honest with you... I love John (the pc guy) and working with him is so effortless and fun that I definitely wouldn't rule out doing some more - and, as I said, they pay us nicely.

Now, not only does he stamp out the rumors, he's even confirming that we can expect more commercials during the holidays. If you're a Get A Mac ad fan like some of us here in QJ, it's definitely going to be a merry Christmas.

Oh and you heard that right. He said "I love John." Figures.

Justin Long as a MacJustin Long really got noticed after appearing in "Dodgeball" (with Ben Stiller) and "Herbie: Fully Loaded" (with eye-candy Lindsay Lohan). Long, as you all know, is also in Apple's series of advertisements as the "Mac Guy." The concept of the commercials was to put the geeky-but-cool looking Mac side by side with the PC.

While the idea is clever, the plan didn't quite work. Apple learned that the viewing audience can't help but be irritated by the "smug little twit." Seth Stevenson of Slate, the online news and critic magazine, commented, "Justin Long is just the sort of unshaven, hoodie-wearing, hands-in-pockets hipster." Long's agent on the other hand said that the deal was never meant to be on a long-term basis.

What's going to happen now? Well, director Phil Morrison and journo-humorist John Hodgman are going back for another campaign of commercials.

Well, so much for Long's career as a Mac. We wish you well, Justin Long, and we hope people won't think you're a smug little twit the next time around.

core 2 duo

New technology makes its way into our hands so fast that sometimes even the company selling it doesn't have time to update its final published specs. At least that's the way it appears with the new Core 2 Duo iMac. A few users have reported some unexpected details when running Vista on their Core 2 Duo.

What looks wrong here? Namely a network card that supports 802.11n in addition to the advertised b/g standards. A reader identified the card to be a Broadcom card which "works across all 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g and draft-802.11n solutions. Intensi-fi is Broadcom's implementation of the 802.11n draft specification and the industry's first draft-802.11n solutions. Intensi-fi technology delivers superior performance and robust wireless connectivity throughout a home or office, enabling next-generation Wi-Fi devices to support voice, video and data applications. Intensi-fi chipsets are also designed to be compatible with existing 802.11a/b/g products."

So why the advertised limitation in Mac OS X? One suggestion was that 802.11n is not supported yet, possibly requiring Vista's latest drivers to unlock 802.11n mode in the Broadcom network card. While this is merely speculation, it's a fact that companies update and replace internal stock hardware with "equal or better" components at time due to availability and cost. So we guess that the moral of this story is to not be surprised if your Core 2 Duo (or other devices) magically start accepting new formats.

The New iPod NanoThe New iPod Nano 2

iPod aficionados, listen up! Apple has just unveiled the latest reincarnation of one of their best-selling products, the iPod Nano. Currently being advertised under the tagline "Completely Remastered", Apple couldn't have been more accurate with their description as the new generation of iPod Nanos have received a complete overhaul.

The new iPod Nano, which has been informally dubbed as the iPod Nano Color, now has an even thinner body and now looks more like an iPod Mini because of its rounded edges. Also, the display of the new Nano is now 40% brighter than that of the model it replaces, and the battery has also been modified to allow up to 24 hours of continuous use. These Nanos are also available in Black, White, Green, Blue, and Pink and comes in capacities of 2GB, 4GB, and 8GB, with the 2GB model expected to retail for $149.

So as we wait for these little babies to make their way to our nearest electronics shop, here's the new ad for the product for you to enjoy in the meantime.

There's some spyware going around!"Hello, I'm a Mac."

"And I'm a PC."

Yep! They're back! Apple has put up three new "Get A Mac" ads. Despite much controversy, the ads, from an advertising perspective, are quite effective. They are simple, straight-to-the-point, and have recall. Some would say they're hilarious. These new ads (you can download the previous ones here) still convince users to, well, "get a Mac". And now, the ads are focusing more on the new features of the MacBook and OS X.

As the other "Get A Mac" ads go, these three new ones are similar - opening with their customary introductory greetings and talking about their pros and cons.

Here are the three new additional commercials.
  • Accident: "Mac" talks about his magnetically connected power cord. *Pop!*
  • Angel/Devil: "PC" has a dilemma over work and play...
  • Trust Mac: "No One" gets concerned about spyware and viruses...

ipodczech

This ad is rumored to be spotted in Apple centers in Czech Republic and some people are making fuss over the image of a bikini-clad young woman with an iPod tucked in the back of her bikini bottom. We sure agree that the girl is sexy, but so is Apple's iPod! Don't you think the two goes well together?

The text means Â?iPod - The best companion for the summerÂ?. Some people who saw the ad misread the text as "iPod, Better than Sex this yearÂ?, as the word Společn?- which can mean "friend" or partner" - was derived from the word společnost, meaning "company". This may be the reason why other people might have misread "company" for...something else. Well, yeah, the ad is sexy but we don't think it's meant to be offensive. What do you think?
