Do some Apple users have too much time on their hands?

The editors of Tech E-Blog got photos of several Apple mods and recently published this selection of their favorites, showing what some folks do to "spruce up" their beloved Mac computers. The nostalgia buff inside me would like to see one designed like that early television model from the late 1940's that had a round screen (anyone ever seen one of those? They never worked very well, but were extremely cool-looking), or maybe a "Tri-V" from the original Star Trek.

#10: MAME

MAME

Not your "Auntie Mame" from the Jerry Herman musical, but a retro-80's arcade game-style cabinet, incorporating a flat-panel iMac and a top of the line sound system. Pac-Man or Asteroids, anyone?

#9: VINTAGE SE 30

SE 30

This was the very first Mac I remember, running System 6 back in 1989. Unlike that particular model (top-of-the-line for its time, but useless for any applications today), this one - created by a user in Japan - has a new Mac Mini inside. The grayscale monitor is connected via the DVI port.

#8: TIKI TIME

TIKI

If old King Kamehameha had a Mac instead of a spear, it might have looked something like the one on the right. Complete with bamboo-trimmed faux-igneous rock flat-panel monitor and traditional Polynesian decor, this one would have been right at home in Gilligan's grass hut.

#7: AQUARIUM

AQUAIRIUM

This isn't a functioning computer, obviously, but was an interesting way to recycle a Mac G4 cube. Apple computers are usually insanely great, but sometimes they're simply insane...in any event, a home for the fishes (really!) was probably this model's best destiny.

#6: NECROMAC

NECRO

A Mac...for the dead? Why not? With painstakingly airbrushed hieroglyphics (not exactly sure what kind - definitely not Egyptian and not Mayan) and a nice "antiquing" effect, this one resembles an ancient relic, and is ready to accompany its owner into the next world...

#5 HUMMER H2 I BOOK

HUMMER

Oh, the arrogance...not only does this laptop come to you, but its carried by a fully working model of the largest, most petrol-guzzling, road-hogging vehicle ever made available to the American public. I guess if one can pony up for the $75,000 price tag, $3/gallon gas isn't really an issue, though, is it?

#4: LEGO MAC

LEGO

Here's a fun one for the kids. This one is comprised of 500 individual pieces, and functions as a server for this household.

#3: THE SHELL

SHELL

Not exactly sure what this one is. We're told that underneath, its a fully functional Mac Mini. It also contains a DVD writer and an IDE to USB 2.0 circuit.

#2: MEDIA MAC

MEDIA

This user likes sound and integrated his Mac right into a speaker cabinet. The speakers are salvaged from eight older Macs. Personally, I like the minimalist lines of the finished wood cabinetry...

#1 Millennium MAC

MILLENIUM

Believe it or not, this rabid Star Wars fan was able to stuff the  inner workings of an entire Mac Mini into his model of Han Solo's Millennium Falcon. USB equipped, the gun port contains an i-Camera. The Force is strong in this one...
